CHAPTER---3

 INTERCHANGE 

NO  SOONER  THAN   AND AS  SOON AS

HOW TO CHANGE ??☝️☹️🙄

STUDY THESE EXAMPLES 👇

a)As soon as the teacher entered the class,the boys stopped shouting.

No sooner did the teacher enter the class than  the boys stopped shouting

b)As soon as he saw the girl,he went to speak to her.

No sooner had he seen the girl than he went to speak to her.

c)As soon as the alarm rings , mother gets up .

No sooner does  the alarm  ring than  mother gets up.

d)No sooner did he write the letter than he posted it.

As soon as he wrote the letter ,he posted it.

👉(In example  'a' the question is in simple past form in As soon as  .In this case there can be two answers

The answer can be in simple past form or past perfect form in No sooner 

Therefore...No sooner did the teacher enter...

Or ..No sooner had the teacher entered....

The same in example 'b' 

No sooner had he seen  the girl...or

No sooner did he see the girl...

example 'c'..The sentence is in present tense thus the answer is also in present tense.

👉No sooner does the alarm ring.....

Example 'd'..The question begins with No sooner....thus the answer  begins with As soon as.

(Note👉No sooner in the beginning bis followed by an auxiliary verb +subject +main verb..

No sooner did  the teacher enter....

or/No sooner had the teacher entered.....

"Than" is an indispensable part of  No sooner .. sentences.)

Now for your assignment.

a)As soon as he reached home 🏡,he was asked to start on another journey.

b)As soon as the principal came into the hall,the students stood up.

c)As soon as he finishes his work,he starts playing.

d)No sooner did we enter the hall than the movie started.

e)No sooner did the girls arrive than we began to dance

1)No  sooner  did  he  reach  / had  he  reached  home 🏡 than  he  was asked  to  start  on  another   journey.

2)No  sooner  did  the   principal  come  /had  the  principal  come  into  the  room  than  the  students  stood  up.

3)No  sooner  does  he  finish  his  work  than  he  goes  out  to  play.

4)As  soon  as  we  entered  the  hall, the  movie  started.

5)As  soon  as  the  girls  arrived  we  began  dancing.
