CHAPTER--3

INTERCHANGE   OF   DEGREES  OF  COMPARISON

OBSERVE  THESE  EXAMPLES πŸ‘‡
1)Superlative--Jack is the best student .

Comparative-Jack is better than any other student.

Positive--No other student is as good as Jack.

2) Superlative-- Cricket  is  one of the most popular games.

Comparative-  🏏 Cricket is more popular than most other games.

POSITIVE-- Very few games are as popular as cricket.

3) SUPERLATIVE--Helen of Troy was the most beautiful woman .

COMPARATIVE---Helen of Troy was more beautiful than any other woman.

POSITIVE--No other woman was as beautiful as Helen of Troy.

☝️☝️The First example...Note that the superlative and comparative degree have the same beginning..
Jack is..
In the positive degree..the beginning in ..No other..........Jack.
(So the subject  is at the end)

πŸ‘‰In  the  second example
Note that the superlative is a bit different from the first example
Cricket ....one  of the  most....
                              ☝️☝️
So is the comparative
Cricket ......more  popular  than.....most other  games (not..any other)

Note the difference in positive degree too
Very  few games(not ..No other game)..are as popular as cricket.

IN INTERCHANGE OF DEGREES
πŸ‘‰NOTE THAT THERE CANNOT BE ANY SUPERLATIVE DEGREE IF THE COMPARISON IS BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE OR PLACES OR THINGS
EXAMPLE...
A  Live  Ass  Is Better Than A Dead 🦁 (comparative)
A Dead Lion Is Not As Good As A Live Ass.(positive)
(An easy way to get it correct--
Bring the object in front....A dead lion
If the sentence is in affirmative change it to negative ...is not
Now change the degree...as good as.
Lastly..bring the subject to the " end"....a live ass .
Putting them together
A dead lion is not as good as a live ass.

Another example of the previous type..
Ranch Is Cooler  Than  Kolkata
(Let's follow the example....
Kolkata is not so /as  cool as Ranchi.

Iam sure you have understood it well..and have no more problems..
Now for some  assignments..

1)He is as strong as Hercules.(use ..stronger)

2)No other metal is as  useful as iron.
(Change to SUPERLATIVE DEGREE)

3)Mumbai is bigger than any other town in India.(begin..No other)

4)Akbar was one  of  the wisest  kings.
(Change into positive degree)

5)A sunset πŸŒ‡ on the sea is one of the loveliest things in Nature.
(Begin..Very few...)

6)I have never seen so  big a diamond πŸ’Ž  as this.(Use .. biggest)

7)My pony 🐴 is better trained than yours.
